I bumped into this video by Professor Tom Angelo, talking about what lectures are good for. He is against the concept of using lectures solely for the purpose of transmitting information. Instead, lectures should be used for transmitting to our students a passion for what we're teaching as well as for demonstrating to them how people in our discipline think about and solve problems. Very insightful.
